Build a mailing list in one cell (TEXTJOIN)

Medium Text

Marketing needs the newsletter recipients as one paste-ready line for the email tool — not a column to copy cell by cell. The addresses sit in A2:A5. Combine them into a single semicolon-separated line in the Mailing list cell C2.

Your solution should use cell references so it updates automatically when Test Case input values change.

Notes

TEXTJOIN(delimiter, ignore_empty, text…). The TRUE in the middle skips blank cells, so the list can grow or shrink without leaving stray separators. CONCAT/& chains also work but repeat the delimiter manually for every cell.

FAQ

How do I combine many cells into one?

Use =TEXTJOIN("; ", TRUE, A2:A5). The first argument is the separator, TRUE skips empty cells, and the range is the text to join.

What does the TRUE argument do?

It tells TEXTJOIN to ignore blank cells. Without it, blank rows still contribute, leaving stray separators like "a; ; c" in the output.

Is TEXTJOIN available in every Excel version?

TEXTJOIN ships with Excel 2016+ and Microsoft 365 (and Google Sheets). In older versions, the & operator chain is the fallback.
