The problem
Problem statement
Invoice date and terms in days are in B2:C2 for row 2. Put the due date in the Due cell D2 as yyyy-mm-dd.
The result must be a date string in yyyy-mm-dd form, and the terms come from C2 rather than being typed into the formula.
Problem data
Show the sheet as a table (selectable, copyable)
| A | B | C | D | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Invoice | Invoice date | Terms (days) | Due |
| 2 | INV-701 | 2026-01-05 | 30 | |
| 3 | INV-702 | 2026-02-10 | 45 |
Notes
Adding days to a date is arithmetic: invoice date + terms. TEXT then renders the serial as the format the ledger expects. Doing the same with string concatenation breaks the moment a month rolls over.
How to approach
Your answer goes in D2.
- Target cell is D2
- Add the terms to the invoice date
- Render it with TEXT
- Shape: =TEXT(?+?, "yyyy-mm-dd")

FAQ
How do I add payment terms to an invoice date?
=invoice_date + terms for calendar days, then format with TEXT. For month-based terms use EDATE or DATE(YEAR, MONTH+n, DAY).
Why is my due date off by a day?
Either the terms count from the day after the invoice, or the date was built from text parts. Agree the counting rule with the business, then encode it.
