Look up unit price by SKU (VLOOKUP)

Easy Lookup & Reference

You run a small warehouse. The price list on the left has every SKU, but the order sheet on the right still needs unit prices. Fill the Unit price cells F2:F4 so each order row pulls the price for its SKU from the price list in columns A–C.

Your solution should use cell references so it updates automatically when Test Case input values change.

Notes

VLOOKUP always searches the first column of the table. The FALSE argument forces an exact match — without it, VLOOKUP may return a nearby value. Column index 3 means the third column of the table range, not column C of the sheet.

FAQ

How do I look up a price with VLOOKUP?

Use =VLOOKUP(E2, A2:C6, 3, FALSE) when E2 holds the SKU, A2:C6 the price table, and the price sits in the 3rd column. Fill down for the other order rows.

Why does VLOOKUP need FALSE at the end?

FALSE forces an exact match. With TRUE (or omitted), VLOOKUP returns an approximate match and can silently return the wrong row when the lookup value is text.

What does the 3 in VLOOKUP mean?

It is the column index within the table range, counted from the first column of A2:C6 — not column number 3 of the worksheet. If the price column moves inside the range, update the index.
