Practice / Math

Round unit prices to whole numbers (ROUND)

Easy Math

A price list stores messy decimals in A2:A5. Finance wants whole-number amounts for the invoice. Fill Rounded in B2:B5 by rounding each price to 0 decimal places — half goes away from zero, same as Excel ROUND.

Your solution should use cell references so it updates automatically when Test Case input values change.

Notes

ROUND(number, num_digits) rounds half away from zero. ROUND(12.6, 0) is 13; ROUND(12.4, 0) is 12. ROUNDUP always rounds away from zero; ROUNDDOWN toward zero — they are not interchangeable with ROUND on these values.

FAQ

How do I round to a whole number in Excel?

Use =ROUND(A2,0). The second argument is the number of decimal places; 0 means no decimals.

What is the difference between ROUND, ROUNDUP, and ROUNDDOWN?

ROUND uses half-away-from-zero rules. ROUNDUP always rounds away from zero. ROUNDDOWN always toward zero. For 12.4, ROUND and ROUNDDOWN both return 12, but ROUNDUP returns 13.

How do I round to two decimal places?

Use =ROUND(A2,2). Change the second argument to keep that many digits after the decimal point.
